Playing soccer with 3 and 4-year-olds should be done in a unique way.

Kids of this age are not ready for competitive matches, or training sessions that focus heavily on technical drills or tactics.

While training and games should be fun and focus on the surface level, the coach should also try to impart some of the core skills of soccer.

Playing 1 day a week is perfect for children of this age, but playing more often is not harmful.

It is recommended that training sessions last between 30 and 45 minutes.

During the first few sessions, parents are advised to participate in some capacity, even if they have to encourage their kids to participate.

Treasure Hunt: Dribbling And Shooting

Put a cone about 5 yards away from the goal to mark the shooting distance. To the side of the goal, leave a pile of cones or markers (treasure). 

There are about 20 yards between the players and the goal. As the players dribble to the shooting cone, they take shots on goal one by one.

Once they score, they grab a piece of treasure (such as a cone) and run back to their teammates. Make a goal of getting a specific amount of treasure.

Hot Potato: Passing And Dribbling

A single ball or two balls can be used, depending on the number of players and their skill level. It is a game of dribbling and passing the ball between players in a specific area.

The maximum number of touches a player can take before passing to a teammate is two. It is necessary to call out the name of the teammate to whom they are passing.

They learn to kick purposeful passes this way. When the coach blows his/her whistle, the player with the ball is knocked out. You can repeat this until you have a winner. 

If a player is knocked out, they should pass the ball among themselves outside the game area, or cheer on their teammates.

Green Light/Red Light: Reactions & Controlled Dribbling

The players line up with a ball at their feet at the starting point. It is the player’s goal to dribble the ball to a finish line, approximately 30 yards away.

When the coach shouts ‘green light,’ players can run with the ball. Whenever the coach shouts ‘red light,’ the players must stop. 

Little, Little, Big: Kicking & Passing

In this game, the players kick the ball from one point to another.

A little kick must be followed by a second little kick, followed by a big kick.

Each time they kick, they should yell “little, little, big”. Once all players have reached the finish line, the game is repeated. 

Cone Dribbles & Shooting: Dribbling & Shooting

Put four cones in a straight line in front of a goal to create two dribbling gates.

Before taking a shot on goal, each player dribbles through the cones. A goalie is not necessary.

Tunnel Pass: Passing Technique
